Creator Spotlight: Pequ

Fortnite Creator | UEFN Developer

From exploring Fortnite as a player to building immersive experiences in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), Pequ has turned years of curiosity and technical experimentation into standout projects enjoyed by thousands of players.

Most recently, Pequ partnered with BEM to bring The Backrooms movie promotion into Fortnite through an authentic in-game activation. As a long-time fan of the franchise, the collaboration was more than just another campaign, it was a personal milestone.

About Pequ

Pequ has been playing Fortnite since childhood, but his journey into development truly began during the 2020 lockdown. With extra time to learn new skills, he immersed himself in Fortnite datamining, modding, Blender, and Unreal Engine.

When UEFN launched, it gave him the perfect opportunity to combine those interests and start creating original Fortnite experiences of his own.

Today, Pequ focuses on building unique maps that put player experience first, combining technical knowledge with creative design to produce engaging gameplay.

Q&A with Pequ

What originally pulled you into Fortnite and UEFN development?

"I've been playing Fortnite ever since I was a kid. When lockdown began in 2020, I suddenly had a lot of free time. During that period, I became especially interested in Fortnite datamining, modding, and learning 3D software like Blender and Unreal Engine. By the time UEFN launched, I already had experience with those tools, and it finally gave me a way to combine both interests and build something of my own."

You recently launched an official campaign for The Backrooms. What was it like seeing an official movie promotion inside your own map?

"Honestly, I felt honoured more than anything. I'm a huge Backrooms fan, so seeing that the official movie team had noticed my work was genuinely shocking. Being able to help bring that campaign into my own map was an amazing experience."

Why did working with BEM make sense for you?

"Working with BEM made sense because it allowed me to monetise my map without affecting the gameplay experience. The setup process was straightforward, and BEM provided all the assets and video tutorials I needed to get everything running smoothly."

What advice would you give to creators hoping to turn map making into a career?

"Don't copy other creators, make something unique that hasn't been done before. When you're building a map, always think from the perspective of a player. Would they find this fun? Would they understand what they're supposed to do, or would they be confused? Keeping the player experience at the centre of every decision is the most important thing."
