bem.builders becomes a founding member of the NFT Factory

bem.builders announces its status as a founding member of the NFT Factory, joining a collective of around fifty French digital players, including the "unicorns" Sorare and Ledger, to launch a space in Paris to raise public awareness of the world of certified digital objects.

Scheduled for September, the inauguration of this 400 m² space "in the heart of Paris" will include a gallery hosting regular exhibitions, an event space for meetings, conferences, and training sessions for businesses, as well as a coworking space for artists and entrepreneurs, according to the co-founders. "We have a historic opportunity in France because several world leaders in the NFT world are French," John Karp, president of NFT Factory, told AFP.

"If this goes well and develops as we expect, some of them will become the GAFAM (American tech giants, editor's note) of the new wave. We must therefore unite this entire ecosystem now to maintain this lead (...) and not be overtaken - this has already happened in other sectors - by the Americans or the Chinese," he adds. NFTs - "non-fungible tokens" - are tamper-proof certificates of authenticity and ownership, based on blockchain technology, the same technology that authenticates cryptocurrency exchange transactions. Virtually unknown just a year ago, they have become must-have lots at major auction houses, such as Christie's, which sold a digital work by the artist Beeple for the record sum of $69.3 million in New York in March 2021. Some 2% of French people have chosen to invest in NFTs, according to a study carried out by the consulting firm KPMG on behalf of the Association for the Development of Digital Assets (ADAN). According to interviews conducted with 29 of the largest companies in the sector in France, fundraising in the French "crypto" industry totals €1.2 billion.

bem.builders annonce devenir membre fondateur de la NFT Factory et rejoint ainsi le collectif d'une cinquantaine d'acteurs français du numérique, dont les "licornes" Sorare et Ledger, pour lancer un lieu à Paris pour notamment mieux faire connaître au grand public l'univers des objets numériques certifiés.

Programmée en septembre, l'inauguration de ce lieu de 400 m2 "au coeur de Paris" comprendra notamment une galerie accueillant des expositions régulières, un espace événementiel pour des rencontres, des conférences et des sessions de formation pour les entreprises ainsi qu'un espace de coworking pour les artistes et les entrepreneurs, selon les cofondateurs. "On a une opportunité historique en France car dans l'univers des NFT plusieurs leaders mondiaux sont Français", indique à l'AFP John Karp, président de NFT Factory.

"Si cela se passe bien et si cela se développe comme on le pense, certains d'entre eux vont devenir les GAFAM (géants américains de la tech, NDLR) de la nouvelle vague. Il faut donc fédérer dès maintenant l'ensemble de cet écosystème pour garder cette avance (...) et ne pas se faire dépasser - cela est déjà arrivé dans d'autres secteurs - par les Américains ou les Chinois", ajoute-t-il. Les NFT - "non-fungible tokens", jetons non fongibles en français - sont des certificats d'authenticité et de propriété infalsifiables, basés sur la technologie des chaînes de blocs ("blockchain"), la même que celle qui authentifie les transactions d'échanges de cryptomonnaies.

Quasiment inconnus il y a encore un an, ils sont devenus des lots incontournables des grandes maisons de vente, comme Christie's qui a vendu une œuvre numérique de l'artiste Beeple pour la somme record de 69,3 millions de dollars, à New York en mars 2021. Quelque 2% des Français auraient choisi d'investir dans les NFT, d'après une étude réalisée par le cabinet de conseil KPMG sur commande de l'Association pour le développement des actifs numériques (Adan). D'après les entretiens menés auprès de 29 entreprises du secteur les plus importantes en France, les levées de fonds dans l'industrie "crypto" française cumulent 1,2 milliards d'euros au total.
